Three Indian Origin MP’s Appointed at Key Positions in Boris Johnson’s new Cabinet

Rishi Sunak, Priti Patel, and Alok Sharma, three Indian origin faces, occupy key posts in the new Cabinet of Boris Johnson.

Boris Johnson, a Britain Prime minister has appointed three Indian-origin people in his Cabinet at key posts.  Priti Patel, who is appointed as country’s first Indian-origin Home Secretary and the other two are Rishi Sunak, and  Alok Sharma.

Rishi Sunak is the son-in-law of Infosys co-founder Narayana Murthy and writer Sudha Murthy. He has been appointed as the Chief Secretary to the Treasury and was elected as the Member of Parliament from Richmond in 2015. He is a businessman, who carried his education in Oxford and Stanford universities. He was brought up in a normal background where his father was a general practitioner in the National Health Service and his mother ran a chemist’s shop.

Alok Sharma, a third Indian origin face, was a Housing Minister in 2017 and Minister of State for Employment in 2018.  He is appointed to the post of the Secretary of State for International Development. Sharma worked in the banking sector for 16 years, prior to his election to parliament in 2010.

Boris’ diversion towards India

Boris Johnson has always described himself as a son-in-law of India as his alienated wife Marina Wheeler’s mother Dip Kaur, was Indian. PM Boris, due to this fact, has emphasized that the UK’s relationship with India should run beyond trade, more deep and close.

Mr Johnson said that he wants to pursue a new trade deal with India and desires to build a personal relationship with Prime Minister Narendra Modi, to have a loyal and special bilateral relationship with India. The British PM, on exiting from EU laid stress on India-UK bilateral relations. He said that by leaving the EU, Britain will lay focus on new Trade Deal with India to boost up their bilateral relations as well as for the economic growth and development of both the countries.
