Exit polls, revealed on Sunday, indicated a return of the National Democratic Alliance (NDA), led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, in the 2019 Lok Sabha Elections

After the conclusion of the last phase of the 2019 Lok Sabha Elections across Indian states on Sunday, the exit polls projected a clear majority for the NDA.

According to predictions, Prime Minister Narendra Modi is likely to witness a second term in office. Polls have forecasted between 277 and 352 Lok Sabha seats for the NDA.

Apart from a predicted majority win for the NDA, the Bharatiya Janata Party alone is expected to bag 277 to 291 seats. BJP had won a majority of 282 seats in the 2014 Lok Sabha Polls.

As for the opposition, the Indian National Congress is predicted to secure 38 to 87 seats. The forecasted lower limit would push the party below its 2014 low score of 44 seats.

If able to bag 87 seats, the Congress would become the Leader of the Opposition. The NDA, on the other hand, might manage to paint a political picture similar to that of 2014 polls. The right-wing party is likely to bag a significant majority in the states of Gujarat, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra and Bihar.

In Uttar Pradesh, the SP-BSP-RLD alliance is projected to win between 13 and 45 seats. UP has the highest number of Lok Sabha seats, a total of 80.

In Tamil Nadu, the DMK-led UPA is expected to bag a majority. According to pollsters, the Congress is projected to secure a win in Punjab.

Soon after West Bengal witnessed violence during the last phase of elections, the Bharatiya Janata Party requested repolling in the state.

Mamata Banerjee-led All India Trinamool Congress (TMC) and the BJP are close competitors in Bengal, while Congress lags behind in the state.

A win for the NDA this election would mark the first successive Lok Sabha majority win for a government since the 1980s.

Final results of the 2019 Indian General Elections will be announced on May 23.
