United States’ President Donald Trump has called on his European allies to “take back over 800 ISIS fighters” that the US captured in Syria and “put them on trial”. This came after the US-backed Kurdish-led forces initiated a final offensive to clean out the last ISIS pocket in Syria last week

US President Donald Trump has called on Germany, France, Britain and other European allies to take back over 800 Islamic State fighters captured by the United States-backed forces. The President asserted, “The caliphate is ready to fall. The alternative is not a good one in that we will be forced to release them…”

On Saturday, Syrian Democratic Forces Commander, Jiya Furat revealed that the US-backed force had successfully managed to corner the ISIS in their last held-area in Eastern Syria. He said, “In the coming few days, in a very short time, we will spread the good tidings to the world of the military end of Daesh (Arabic name of the caliphate)”.

The US-backed offensive that started last week was initiated as the final push by the SDF to wipe out the last ISIS-occupied region. Over the week, many civilians fled Baghuz, including foreign fighters and families. Among those trying to escape the area, were defeated Jihadist fighters looking to run off unnoticed.

This was followed by President Trump’s tweet on Saturday that read, “….The U.S. does not want to watch as these ISIS fighters permeate Europe, which is where they are expected to go. We do so much, and spend so much – Time for others to step up and do the job that they are so capable of doing. We are pulling back after 100% Caliphate victory!”

The US President has sworn to pull out US military support from Syria after the complete defeat of the Islamic State in the country. The decision has created concern about the fate of Northern Syria amid increased Turkish involvement.
