Ahead of the G20 summit, US President Donald Trump said China was “ripe” for new tariffs. He also warned Vietnam of potential tariffs

Before heading to Osaka for the G20 summit, US President Trump asserted that China was “ripe” for new tariffs. He is scheduled to hold talks with Chinese President Xi Jinping on Saturday.

So far, the US has levied tariffs on Chinese imports worth $200 billion. President Trump has confirmed that he will not back down unless China respects intellectual property laws.

Threatening to impose tariffs on the remaining imports, he said, “You [China] have another $325bn that I haven’t taxed yet – it’s ripe for taxing, for putting tariffs on.”

President Trump further asserted that the trade war between the US and China was only affecting the Asian superpower.

He said, “Companies are moving out of China, by the way, some are coming back to the United States because they don’t want to pay the tariff.”

Referring to Vietnam as “the single worst abuser of everybody”, Trump affirmed that the Southeast Asian nation could also face tariffs.

He added, “A lot of companies are moving to Vietnam, but Vietnam takes advantage of us even worse than China. So there’s a very interesting situation going on there.”

Soon to hold talks with world leaders on G20 sidelines, Trump accused most of the world of taking “tremendous advantage of the United States.”

He said, Germany is “giving Russia billions of dollars [for energy] yet we are supposed to protect Germany and Germany is delinquent! Okay?”

Speaking of the G20 host nation, Trump said, “If Japan is attacked, we will fight World War III. We will go in and protect them with our lives and with our treasure.”

“But if we’re attacked, Japan doesn’t have to help us. They can watch it on a Sony television,” asserted the US President.

When asked about talks with Russian President Vladimir Putin, he said, “I’ll have a very good conversation with him [on the G20 sidelines].”
