US Security Advisor extends support for India’s right to self-defence against cross-border terrorism

The US National Security Advisor, John Bolton spoke to his Indian counterpart National Security Advisor, Ajit Doval on February 15, following the Pulwama Terror Attack in Jammu & Kashmir.

In a telephone call initiated by the US, Bolton expressed condolences and outrage over the barbaric attack in Jammu & Kashmir on Central Reserve Police Force personnel’s convoy by Pakistan-based terrorist group Jaish-e-Muhammad (JeM).  Bolton supported India’s right to self-defence against cross-border terrorism. He offered all assistance to India to bring the perpetrators and backers of the attack promptly to justice.

Doval appreciated the US support, said an official readout released by Indian Ministry of External Affairs.

The official release also mentioned that both sides vowed to work together to ensure that Pakistan cease to be a safe haven for JeM and terrorist groups that target India, the US and others in the region. They resolved to hold Pakistan to account for its obligations under UN resolutions and to remove all obstacles to designate JeM leader, Masood Azhar as a global terrorist under the United Nations Security Council Resolution 1267 Committee process.

The Central Reserve Police Force, on February 14, lost 40 jawans when an explosive-laden car rammed one of the buses carrying the troops travelling from Jammu to Srinagar.
