The United States and China could not see eye to eye amid the existing conflicts and tension between the two superpowers. Reportedly, the two nations used the APEC platform to attack each other’s policies. The weekend summit in Port Moresby, however, opened up conversations for strengthening trade and investment relations among the member states of the Asia Pacific region.
While Japan joined the US in condemning China’s expansion in the Pacific region, the Australian PM Scott Morrison aimed to focus on the positive. Morrison argued that the summit, which wrapped up on Sunday, reinforced cooperation, especially for enhancing the digital economy. Post the summit, the leaders are committed to ensuring better trading outcomes, reducing tariffs and enabling overall betterment of the APEC member economies.
The US-China friction is likely to be discussed and resolved at the upcoming G20 event in Argentina.
