The Embassy of India in Jakarta, in partnership with Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, hosted an inaugural event to mark the 70 years of diplomatic relations between India and Indonesia.

In a landmark move, Indonesia has released a Ramayana themed stamp for the first time. The inaugural event was held to flag off the 70th anniversary of India-Indonesia diplomatic ties.

The special commemorative stamp released on Tuesday has marked the centuries old strong cultural bond of the two nations. It has been designed by a popular Indonesian sculptor Padmashri Bapak Nyoman Nuart. The stamp features a scene form Hindu epic Ramayana in which Jatayu had bravely fought to save Sita.

“As agreed during Prime Minister’s (of India) visit in May 2018, the Department of Posts of the Government of Indonesia released a special commemorative stamp. It is based on the theme of Ramayana to mark the event,” said a statement of Indian Embassy in Jakarta.

The stamps, which symbolize the resolve of two peoples in the face of adversity, were distributed in limited edition. A specially signed version of it will be displayed at the Philately Museum in Jakarta. “The photo exhibit for public display will be held at Jakarta’s National Museum from April 25 to May 5,” added Indian Embassy.

The inauguration was jointly presided over by Indonesia’s Deputy Foreign Minister and the Ambassador of India to Indonesia. Over two hundred guests had arrived at the event, including Diplomatic Corps and senior officials from the Government. Besides, the event also welcomed Indian community members and Indian friends from diverse walks of life in Indonesia.
