President Trump has called off the June 12 Summit with North Korean leader Kim Jong-un. In a mournful letter, Trump informed Kim of “this missed opportunity is a truly sad moment in history”.

Mr. Trump also wrote how he was looking forward to meeting Kim but also mentioned North Korea’s “tremendous anger and hostility” as one of the main reason for the call off. Another factor could be Kim’s silence over the meeting.

Where President Trump readily accepted North Korea’s acceptation, Kim has never publically acknowledged it.

But Trump has also mentioned that the meeting in Singapore could still happen after learning North Korea’s conciliatory response.

“The unilateral cancellation of the summit was unexpected and very regrettable,” said Kim Kye-gwan, a vice foreign minister of North Korea. But he said the North remained “willing to sit down with the United States any time, in any format, to resolve the problems.”

President trump also mentioned, “You talk about your nuclear capabilities, but ours are so massive and powerful that I pray to God they will never have to be use,” alluding to the blowing of nuclear testing site by North Korea recently.

After the cancellation, North Korea is still willing to meet Donald Trump anytime.

“We would like to make known to the US side once again that we have the intent to sit with the US side to solve problem(s) regardless of ways at any time,” said Kim in comments published by the country’s state-run news agency KCNA Friday.

The dialogue was further extended when South Korean President Moon Jae-in, who acted as a middleman between Trump and Kim, called an emergency meeting in the middle of the night. South Korea said that both sides should “devote effort to save the dialogue opportunity.”

To compliment President Trump on staying open for a new dialogue with North Korea, North Korean foreign ministry official Kim Kye Gwan said,”We have inwardly highly appreciated President Trump for having made the bold decision, which any other US presidents dared not, and made efforts for such a crucial event as the summit.”

“We remain unchanged in our goal and will to do everything we could for peace and stability of the Korean Peninsula and humankind, and we, broad-minded and open all the time, have the willingness to offer the US side time and opportunity.”
