President Ram Nath Kovind Addresses the First Joint session of Parliament

In his first address to a joint session of both the houses of the Indian Parliament, President Ram Nath Kovind talked about improvised social-welfare schemes, fighting terrorism and India hosting 2020 G-20 Summit.

President Ram Nath Kovind addressed the first joint session of both the houses (Lok Sabha & Rajya Sabha) of Parliament. He stated that India will successfully host the G-20 Summit in 2020. The President also laid down the roadmap for social welfare schemes which can benefit every citizen of India.

The President stressed upon the need to immediately pass the bills to ban arbitrary practices like Triple Talaq and Nikah Halala which are detrimental to the freedom and fundamental rights of women.

He talked about Triple Talaq, Nikah Halala, NRC, Surgical Strikes, National Register of Citizens (NRC) and ‘One Nation, One Election’ in his speech which was the first joint sitting of both the Upper and Lower Houses of the Indian Parliament.

Envisaging women empowerment as one of the highest priorities of the present government, President Ram Nath Kovind said, “To ensure equal rights for every sister and daughter in the country; eradication of practises like Triple Talaq and Nikah Halala is absolutely necessary. I would request all members to extend their support to these efforts to make the lives of our sisters and daughters more dignified and improved.”  

The President also stressed on the zero tolerance policy of the Government towards corruption and terrorism.

He also wished success to Mission Jal Shakti, a new pioneer project by the Government which he said will be a positive step towards water empowerment of the country.

Regarding the G-20 Summit, President stated that, ‘Today, India has a new identity all over the world and our relations with other countries have been further strengthened. It is heartening to note that India will host the G-20 Summit in 2022’.

In his concluding remarks, Mr. Kovind said that the need of the day is to bring in a ‘one nation one election system’ so that our country can flourish better.
