New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the Bharatiya Janata Party’s new headquarter located at Deen Dayal Upadhyaya Marg. The party has been working from Ashoka Road, in the Lutyen’s Bungalow Zone. With this shift, BJP becomes the first party to shift outside the Lutyen’s Bungalow Zone, following a Supreme Court directive that party offices should be relocated from there.

BJPNew headquarter is the bigger than the office of any other political party in the world, BJP president Amit Shah said. Headquarter is constructed in the area of 1.70 lakh sq ft. Its foundation was laid by Prime Minister Modi and party president Amit Shah on August 18th , 2016. Within 18 months construction of this multi-storeyed building was completed. The premise has three buildings fitted with modern communication tools, enabling party office- bearers to co-ordinate official works with their counterparts in other states. Headquarter was constructed by a Mumbai based architecture company. It has halls for conferences and meeting, and auditoriums apart from the offices of the party workers.

During the inauguration office bearers and veteran leaders of BJP were also present. Prime Minister Modi had emphasized upon the founding principles of the party and discussed the evolvement of the party in his inaugural speech. While addressing the audience on the occasion, Prime Minister Modi said: “Ours was a journey that began with greats such as Dr. Shyama Prasad Mookerjee and Pandit Deendayal Upadhyaya. Generations of ‘karyakartas’ have given their lives for the party.” Affirming that the BJP and its precursor Jana Sangh since Independence had led all agitations held in the national interest, he added democracy is the party’s core value which enables BJP to take along allies successfully.

Party workers are likely to start operating from their new headquarter within a week or so. The shifting of office by BJP might encourage other political parties as well to work as per the Supreme Court orders, to shift all the offices outside the Lutyen’s Bungalow Zone.
