Multiple MoUs Signed during Argentina President Macri’s India Visit

India, Argentina reaffirms their commitment to further deepen and reinvigorate the long diplomatic relations during Argentina President Mauricio Macri’s state visit

The President of the Argentine Republic, Mauricio Macri concluded the three-day State Visit to India on 19 February 2019, signing multiple MoUs with India on defence, tourism, broadcasting, pharmaceuticals and more.

Macri, who was invited by Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi as part of the celebrations of the 70th anniversary of diplomatic relations, also met President of India, Ram Nath Kovind on 18 February 2018 and hosted a banquet in his honor later the same evening. President Macri, accompanied with wife Juliana Awada, received a ceremonial reception with a joint military guard of honor at Rashtrapati Bhavan in New Delhi.

In the presence of senior government officials and a business delegation, President Macri and PM Modi exchanged views on bilateral, regional and global issues of mutual interest. In a joint statement, the leaders expressed satisfaction over the successful conclusion of the fifth India-Argentina Joint Commission Meeting, held in New Delhi on 14 January 2019, and reiterated their strong commitment to further deepen the diplomatic relations between India and Argentina.

Welcoming India-Argentina multi-faceted cooperation, both countries signed 10 MoUs on different areas of corporation. These include defence, tourism, broadcasting content, pharmaceuticals, Antarctica, agriculture corporation, agriculture research, information & communication technology, civil nuclear and establishment of centre of excellence for information technology.

In the backdrop of recent terror attacks in Jammu & Kashmir on CRPF convoy, both countries issued a Joint Declaration reiterating the need to “resolute and unequivocally fight the menace of terrorism”. Condemning the attack in the declaration, President Macri along with PM Modi stressed that there could be no justification for acts of terror on any grounds whatsoever.

Argentina and India expressed satisfaction on the progress of Fission Molly Project, the molybdenum plant in Mumbai being constructed by the Argentine company INVAP. Started after the countries signed the historic Agreement on Cooperation in the Peaceful Uses of Nuclear Energy in 2010, then project reportedly would be completed in 2020.
