A year after the US extraction from the 2015 agreement; Iran announces for partial withdrawal from Nuclear Deal

Iran will announce its partial withdrawal from nuclear deal of 2015, after US withdrew from the agreement in 2018.  It has delivered letters to the ambassadors outlining its partial withdrawal from the 2015 nuclear deal with world powers. The letters were to be delivered to the leaders of Britain, China, EU, France, Germany and Russia. All these countries were signatories to the nuclear deal. Under which Iran limited its enrichment of uranium in exchange for the lifting of economic sanctions.

The foreign minster of Iran asserted that it will not be a complete withdrawal. However, it may include two month deadline for the EU to implement its obligations. France was the first EU country to react on Iran’s withdrawal from the nuclear deal. It warned Iran that “Europe will have no choice but to impose economic sanctions against Iran if it steps back from the deal.”

This Announcement comes within section 26 and 36 of the 2015 nuclear deal. It allows Iran to take steps if a party withdraws from the nuclear deal agreement. Foreign Minister of Iran Javed Zarif stated “Iran would reduce some voluntary commitments within its nuclear deal.” “But would not withdraw from it,” he added. In addition,  Zafri said “Iran’s future actions will be fully within the nuclear deal from which the Islamic Republic will not withdraw.”

Iran’s move came after a year President Donald Trump withdrew America from the deal. However, since then the US has been imposing economic sanctions on Iran. Iranian officials had warned that “the country might increase its uranium enrichment, potentially pulling away from the deal after spending a year trying to salvage it with European partners.”

The nuclear deal was signed in 2015 between Iran and the permanent members of the United Nations Security Council and Germany and EU.
