In a symbolic gesture, India’s External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj handed over e-Rickshaws to El Hadji Ibou Boye, the Ambassador of Republic of Senegal, as part of India-Senegal Clean Energy Initiative in a ceremony held at New Delhi, India.

Upon the request of President Macky Sall of Senegal to India’s Prime Minister Narendra Modi, India is supplying 250 e-Rickshaws on grant basis to Senegal. The e-Rickshaws run on lithium-ion batteries and are made in India by Electric Motors Vehicles (Pvt) Ltd. India has witnessed a steady growth in the use of e-Rickshaws powered on batteries in the recent past. The initiative of supplying e-Rickshaws by India to Senegal will help the latter to adopt efficient and clean sources of energy in urban public transport.
