India bagged its first Test series victory in Australia in the last decade on Monday. India defeated Australia by 31 runs, winning the four-match Test series by a 1-0 lead in the opening match of the four-match series held at the Australian sports ground, Adelaide Oval
India beat Australia by 31 runs on Monday, marking its first Test victory in Australia in over a decade. The Indian cricket team captain Virat Kohli is now the only Asian captain to have won Tests in Australia, England and South Africa.
The Indian victory, however, came after a tedious match. The five-time World Cup champion Australia put up a great fight, making the India victory a hard-earned one. The first test of the four-match series in Adelaide Oval kept both Australian and Indian fans on the edge of their seats till the very end.
The Australian captain in Test series Tim Paine, and Nathan Lyon, who also holds the record for the most Test wickets in Australia, played brilliantly, taking Australia closer to the target. Lyon made it to the top of the bowlers list for the match with a remarkable score of 2/83 and 6/122.
Indian cricketer Ravichandran Ashwin took the last wicket in Monday’s Test match, ushering an Indian victory. The Man of the Match honour was given to Indian cricketer Cheteshwar Pujara who made his sixteenth Test century. India created a 166-run lead over Australia on day three of the match. On day four, India made 307 runs in the second inning with a collapse of 5 for 25, setting a high target of 323 runs. The Australian team managed to make 291 runs in the second inning, resulting in the Indian win by 31 runs.
India defeated Australia at Adelaide Oval in 2003, making this their second victory in over a decade. Moreover, this was India’s first-ever win in the first match of a Test series against Australia.
