After the fourth test of the India vs Australia Test series ended in draw due to weather conditions, India bagged a historic win with 2-1 against the host country, Australia. This is India’s first-ever Test win on Australian soil

The Indian cricket team emerged victorious in the fifth match of the India vs Australia Test series after the fourth and final match was drawn due to unavoidable weather conditions. With a 2-1 win against the host country, India is now the only Asian country to win on Australian soil. This was also India’s first-ever Test series victory in and against Australia over the course of seven decades.

Indian Captain Virat Kohli became the first captain to lead the Indian cricket team to a Test victory in Australia. He described the win as his “best achievement”. Captain Kohli, who was the youngest member of the Indian cricket team during the 2011 Indian World Cup win, said the Test series win in Australia “has to be on top of the pile. When we won the World Cup, I was a young player. I saw the others getting emotional. This series will give us a different identity as a team. What we’ve been able to achieve is something to be really proud of”.

The glorious victory was ushered in by remarkable performances by Indian cricketers in the series. Indian batsman, Cheteshwar Pujara truly brought his A-game. With 521 runs in 7 innings, he made the most runs in the four-match Test series. The Indian captain said, “(I) want to give a special mention to Pujara. He’s one guy always willing to accept things. He’s the nicest man around. Special mention to Mayank Agarwal too….to come in on Boxing Day and play like that against a high quality attack.” He also mentioned the 21-year-old Indian wicketkeeper Rishabh Pant, stating, “Someone like Rishabh as well coming into his own and dominating attacks”.

With Cheteshwar Pujara’s remarkable score of 193 and Rishabh Pant’s 159 (not out), India bagged a grand first innings of 622 for 7. Australia resumed the match at 236 for 6 during the fifth match, which was postponed on day three due to the rain. On day four, Australia was bowled out for 300 runs.
