Senior journalist Vidya Krishnan has accused famous TV journalist and India Today’s Executive Editor Gaurav Sawant of sexual assault. In a report published in The Caravan, the journalist stated that Sawant had assaulted her during a reporting trip that they had made together to Beas in year 2003 to cover a peacetime drill. She has alleged that he had sent her inappropriate messages, entered her room and forced her to touch him inappropriately. “In my mind, there was a fear that I might have to end up doing what he wanted. I was not confident that I could stand my ground and say ‘No,’” she said in the report. Another journalist, who has come out in support of Vidya Krishnan, posted on her Twitter account that she could “testify Gaurav Sawant is a pest.”

Meanwhile, Gaurav Sawant has called the article published in The Caravan ‘irresponsible, baseless, and completely false’ and has threatened the journalist with legal action.
