China Will Face Stiff Tariffs For Breaking The Deal In Trade Talks, Says Trump

Donald Trump
Donald Trump has accused China of breaking a deal in trade talks with the United States.

Donald Trump, while addressing a rally in Florida, said that the US has published a list of Chinese products that will face increased tariffs from Friday for breaking the deal that had reached in US-China trade talks.

US President Donald Trump on Wednesday has accused China of breaking a deal in trade talks with Washington.  Speaking at a rally in Florida, he threatened China of stiff tariffs if no agreement is reached.

“You see the tariffs we’re doing?” Trump told the rally. “Because they broke the deal. They broke the deal. So they’re flying in. The vice premier tomorrow is flying in, but they broke the deal. They can’t do that. So they’ll be paying. If we don’t make the deal, nothing wrong with taking in more than $100 billion a year,” he said.

The top US trade officials said that China backtracked on substantial commitments it made during the on-going trade talks. These included addressing issues such as the theft of US intellectual property and trade secrets and competition policy. Besides, it also counted in the forced transfer of technology, access to financial services, and currency manipulation.

Trump has threatened to impose additional tariffs on Chinese goods beginning on Friday and another “shortly”. He continued saying the US “won’t back down until China stops cheating our workers and stealing our jobs.” “That’s what’s going to happen. Otherwise, we don’t have to do business with them. We can make the product right here if we have to, like we used to,” Trump added.

Beijing will retaliate if US tariffs on $200 billion of Chinese goods are increased to 25% from 10%. “China deeply regrets that if the US tariff measures are carried out. China will have to take necessary countermeasures,” said the commerce ministry in a statement.
