The body of the CCD head was recovered from a river near Manguluru after he had gone missing

The body of the missing Café Coffee Day (CCD) owner VG Siddhartha was recovered on Wednesday morning from the Nethravati River near Mangaluru after it was spotted by local fishermen. The 58-year-old Siddhartha, son-in-law of the former Karnataka chief minister had been missing since Monday when he had left for Salkeshpur.

On the way reportedly he had told his driver to stop his SUV near a bridge at Ullala and wait for him while he takes a stroll. The driver grew worried when he could not spot Siddhartha for a very long time and informed the family. The police had started a massive search with more than 200 officials and divers along with the Coast Guard, teams of National Disaster Response Force after it.

A purported last letter has surfaced written by Siddhartha to his company’s Board of Directors and employees where he revealed he is in deep debt and had been pressurized by some partners for buy back shares. He stated in his note “I have failed to create the right profitable business model despite my best efforts. I would like to say I gave it my all. I am very sorry to let down all the people that put their trust in me. I fought for a long time but today I gave up as I could not take any more pressure…”

He was finally cremated at the Chethanahalli coffee estate owned by the family at his hometown in Chikkamgaluru, where hundreds of well-wishers and friends thronged to pay homage. Many political leaders including the Karnataka chief Minister paid their respects at the office. He is survived by his wife, Malavika and two sons.
