The third such casualty of a road accident in the past two days, a biker was killed on the newly inaugurated Signature Bridge, which was opened to public on November 4 after eight years of construction

Two days after two medical students rammed a divider and fell 30 feet to their death, a motorcyclist was killed yesterday by ramming into the divider.

The two men on the bike were heading to north-east Delhi when their motorcycle skidded, resulting in one’s death at 8.20 am. Aged 24 and 17 respectively, the former died while on his way to the hospital, whilst the latter is hospitalised with knee injuries. They were both wearing helmets, but the 24 year old’s seems to have flown off on collision with the road divider.

The 2,214-foot bridge is built across the Yamuna river, and has a 505-foot-high viewing gallery. Because of the popularity of this unique-looking bridge, which has been described as an engineering marvel, and has thus become a tourist spot of sorts, it has witnessed numerous people trying to take daring selfies and violating traffic rules to feel an adrenaline rush. Some are even violating safety laws and risking their lives by climbing onto suspension cables to take selfies to showcase their daring. Even a few transgenders were filmed stripping to celebrate the engineering grandeur of the bridge – a video which went viral and also disturbed on-going traffic. There have even been many cases of negligent and careless parking, as well as one-way violations, which tends to put multiple lives at risk. Such accidents are thus avoidable, and can be mitigated if people refrain from undertaking activities which not only endanger their lives, but also of those around them, whether they are following the rules or not.
