The India Pavilion at the 69th Berlin International Film Festival (Berlinale) 2019 was inaugurated by Director of European Film Market (EFM), Matthijis Wouter Knol, on Friday

India Pavilion, at the 69th Berlin International Film Festival (Berlinale) 2019, was inaugurated by the European Film Market Director, Matthijis Wouter Knol. From India, the inaugural ceremony was attended by the Additional DG, Directorate of Flim Festivals, Chaitanya Prasad and Director, Films, Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, G C Aron.

The dignitaries also unveiled the official poster of International Film Festival of India (IFFI), 2019 during the ceremony. Also present at the ceremony was Paramita Tripathi, the Deputy Chief of Mission, Embassy of India in Berlin.

As per the official statement released, the Indian Delegation apprised the European Film Market (EFM) representatives about the significance of the Golden Jubilee celebration of IFFI. The EFM was also briefed about the recent policy initiatives of the Indian Government to ensure ease of filming in India, setting up of Film Facilitation Office, the launch of the Web portal www.ffo.gov.in for online application for film shooting at a single point and the amendment to the Cinematograph Act to tackle film piracy.

Addressing the media, Director EFM, Knol said that the Indian participation would pave a way forward for a more proactive interaction between the Indian stakeholders & the Industry with the organizers of Berlinale in future.

Prior to the inaugural ceremony, the Indian Delegation attended a discussion with Carlo Chatrian, Festival Director Designate, Berlin Film Festival, regarding a future collaboration with IFFI Goa 2019.

Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, in collaboration with Confederation of Indian Industry, is participating in the Berlin International Film Festival being held from 7th – 17th February, 2019 at Berlin, Germany. The India Pavilion will act as a platform to popularize Indian Cinema in the overseas market and facilitate new business opportunities. The Indian Delegation is also scheduled to meet officials from Locarno Film Festival, Venice International Film Festival, New Zealand Film Commission, Cannes Film Festival, Edinburgh International Film Festival, and China Children’s Film Association, among others.
